Most new hams,
especially technicians, start out with a
simple 2-meter portable rig because they are
inexpensive and can connect you with your
local community. But there are serious
limitations in that ham radio is far more
than a 2-meter portable. As your
experience grows and advance in license
class, you will undoubtedly want to
add to your capabilities. With this in

divided into VHF and HF gear.
